Kate Maddalena

Assistant Professor of Writing

  • Office: William Peace University

Kate Maddalena studies physical “manipulative” media and science, materiality and citizen science, and science writing. She helped to develop the emerging Professional Science Writing program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and began a curricular relationship between English and Environmental Science departments there. As a professor of writing at William Peace University in Raleigh, she is interested in building community relationships to foster knowledge-making in “other epistemic places” (Garforth & Stockelova, 2011)–i.e. places other than the resource-rich technoscience hubs of R1 universities.

Kate Maddalena is a graduate of NCSU’s Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media Program. Her work has been published in Theory, Culture, and Society, Teorie Vedy/Theory of Science, The Canadian Journal of Communication, and Scientific Communication: Principles, Practices, and Methods.
