Dan Solomon

Dean Emeritus College of Sciences

Daniel L. Solomon is Emeritus Professor of Statistics and Emeritus Dean of the College of Sciences at North Carolina State University. He retired in 2015 and joined the cluster as a Fellow in 2017.

Dr. Solomon’s research focused on applications of mathematics and statistics to population and community ecology. His leadership efforts emphasized the development and promotion of effective pedagogy, the expansion of research and graduate programs, the growth and diversification of the science and mathematics workforce, and the development of programs to make the next generation of scientists better able to communicate science to the public and to embrace that as a professional responsibility.

Over his career, Dr. Solomon promoted a wide array of activities in support of diversity. These range from programs to diversify the STEM pipeline beginning at grade 3 through efforts to diversify the science student body and faculty, create a more inclusive community and enhance work-life balance. In 2015 he received the NC State University Lifetime Achievement Award for Equity for Women.
